The last time the trojans faced off against Hastings it was a 7-1 blowout with the trojans dominating the game. This time around Hastings came to play and wouldn’t let down. In fact the trojans found themselves down 1 goal with just 5 minutes to play in the game. With their season on the line and a chance at becoming back to back district champs on the line the trojans would have to step up.
The Saxons were the first to score after a high lofted ball took a bounce over the TK’s keeper head as she came out to receive it.
TK would continue to get chance in the first half and it was after a costly foul on Hastings when Ellie Adams got a free kick for TK. A beautifully placed ball in the box found Sarah Possett’s head to tie the game up 1-1.
The second half couldn’t have started worse for the trojans as just minutes into the half a hand ball just outside the box lead to a free kick for the Saxons. After deflecting the kick off a trojan defender an unmarked Saxon player got the ball and put it in to go up 2-1.
It looked like this would be the end to the trojans season but with 10 minutes remaining and some great resilience the trojans weren’t going to lose on their home turf. After some great opportunities for the trojans it was at the 5 minute mark when they would find hope. A ball was played from the left to the right where once again Ellie Adams had the ball at her feet. Ellie played a ball into the box where Kylie Adams was making a great run. Kylie got her head on the ball which went up and over the keepers hands to tie the game 2-2. At that point it seemed like fate for the trojans to win the game and they would do just that. With just 2 minutes remaining a corner kick was awarded to the trojans. Ellie Adams played another great ball into the box which found Tess Scheidel’s head. As the ball was about to cross the line a Saxon defender used her hand to bat the ball away from the net which lead to a red card and a PK for the trojans.
The PK was taken by Tess Scheidel who buried it for the win.
The trojans move on to play Grand Rapids Christian on Saturday at 5pm. The two teams have met twice this season and both games ended in a tie. Should be a great game. Come out and support your trojans as they try and win back to back district titles.
