Girls Varsity Cross Country · Girls Varsity Cross Country Finishes Respectable 7th Place at Regional Meet

Thornapple-Kellogg High School 7th 186

Each one of the girls put it on the line today. All of them gave maximum effort and ran with a lot of heart. I don’t think any of them can honestly say that they coulda’, woulda’, shoulda’ done anything differently. They poured it out for the team and represented both the team and Thornapple Kellogg very well.
We were ranked tenth heading in, and we came out seventh ahead of conference rivals South Christian and Wayland, who are tough teams to beat. We didn’t land in the top three, which would have qualified for the state meet, but it was not for lack of grit or determination.
At this point we will get a brief rest tomorrow, and then head to the Barry County Meet, at the Gilmore Car Museum to close out our season.
Junior Audrey Meyering ran a season best time and was only three spots from qualify for the state meet, with sister Elizabeth not far behind. They ran 20:18 and 20:51 respectively, both of of which were season bests. Senior Georgia Kaboos also ran a season best 21:04, while giving it all she had. Freshman Jessica Durkee ran solid, running about ten seconds faster on this course than last time. Senior Shylin Robirds, in what was her healthiest race of the season was amazing, all the while chalking up a season personal best 21:41. Senior Bree Bonnema ran a really though race, in spite of her lungs not fully cooperating with her. She still ran a very solid 21:51. Rounding out our top seven was freshman Kendall Snyder, in only her third race of the season, and not all the way healthy, facing her toughest course all year, ran great in 21:54.
