Overall Meet Comments:
We finally had a race with cool temperatures. The varsity girls worked hard and enjoyed a third place finish after being bested by a very strong Grand Rapids Calvin Christian team, and a strong Grand Rapids Rapids Covenant Christian team. It was important to me that we were able to battle ahead of Wayland, who placed fourth, but breathing down our necks. Anytime you can be ahead of a conference and regional rival, that’s a good thing. Wayland’s team is full of some strong girls and they are a good barometer for us.
The junior varsity was equally filled with really solid efforts by all of the girls, and they also placed third.
This was our first year at this meet. The course is fast and the competition was good. Next year we will know the course better and we’ll give it another crack.

Top 7 Performances/Athletes-
Freshman Jessica Durkee continued to lead our team and finish first for us in spite of some misdirections on the course, which I blame myself for. I had the girls preview the course independently of me, and I should have been with them on the parts of the course that were somewhat confusing. Juniors Elizabeth and Audrey Meyering had themselves a race, finishing second and third for the team. Senior Bree Bonema was close behind, and once again was in the mix helping to keep the heart of our team strong. Senior Georgia Kaboos continues to run tough for us, and was followed by Junior Gracie DeWent who gave a fantastic effort, and Freshman Kelsey Smith, who battled through cramps and asthma issues, but still gave her best. In short, the girls gave maximum effort, and I will never be disappointed in the girls when I know this is the case, regardless of what the results are. Having said this, third was a very respectable showing in the field we competed against today.

Next weekend will be a good test for us at the Otsego Invitational where we will face many teams from our regional, that we don’t typically see during the regular season.
