Game Recap

Coach David Wood: “We played very well against South Christian, arguably the best performance of the season so far. We created quite a few clear goal scoring opportunities but the South goalkeeper made some excellent saves. We conceded a goal late in the first half against the run of play which set us back.”

“We came out very strong in the second half and created another two good opportunities. Again the South keeper made some great saves. As we tried to keep pushing forward nothing would fall for us in front of goal. Full credit to the South Christian goalkeeper he had a fantastic game.”

“Overall we were happy with the performance and knew how well we have played for the duration of the game.”

Meet Recap

It was a beautiful day for racing at Yankee Springs, with the backdrop of Gun Lake. Caledonia came into the newly renamed Coach B Invitational ready to throw down, and they sure did, scoring a very impressive 19 points, being led by freshman sensation Lindsey Peters.

I knew going in that Caledonia was not the team to beat as much as the team that was going to burn up the course and steal the show. Realistically, I realized it would be a battle for second, and frankly, perhaps out of arrogance, or confidence, I’m not sure which, I thought we were going to get it. However, two conference foes, South Christian and Wayland both brought the heat and outdid us. Having said this, the difference between second and fourth was only seven points. We had some solid match-ups and we won some and lost some by a matter of seconds.

Senior Ali Joy Matison and junior Shylin Robirds backed up their one-two punch of finishing first and second for our team in our first meet, with another one-two punch doing the same in our second meet, and with only nine seconds separating the two, crossing the line in 21:20 and 21:29! Sophomore Audrey Meyering had a bounce back meet running third for us in a solid 21:42. Junior Sarah Possett toughed it out to finish a solid fourth on the team, while sophomore Elizabeth Meyering followed across the finish line only two seconds later with times of 22:06 and 22:12 respectively. Juniors Bree Bonnema (22:46) and Stephanie Pitsch (22:47) rounded out the top seven today, both running quite well.

Overall I am pleased with our effort, but both South Christian and Wayland sent a very clear message that in spite of our focus upward in our conference, they refuse to be overlooked and will create a real challenge for us. Both teams are tough, and I think on any given day, the three of us could be in any order. It’s just that close right now.

Our girls are determined and they are hard workers. I think we need to get some momentum to get into a better rhythm. We will try to get that going in our first OK Gold Jamboree next week.
