Meet Recap

The last meet of our season featured moments of sun, clouds, snow, sleet, lightning, and high winds. It also featured Miss Alli Joy Matison, having an amazing last hurrah for her high school career, by becoming the Barry County Championships overall winner. She was followed by scorers, sophomore Elizabeth Meyering, junior Sarah Possett, sophomore Audrey Meyering, junior Shy Robirds, junior Bree Bonnema, and freshman, Natalie O’Riley.
In the midst of the less than desirable weather, the girls ran the kind of race they needed to in order to get the win. The girls were understandably disappointed in not qualifying for state, and I am very proud of them for being the amazing people they are in that they set that aside that disappointment and put together a solid effort only two days later, to represent their community, their school, their team, their families, and themselves well.
I think it’s important that we ended our season on a high note. It’s more fun to end with a little momentum in our back pocket.

Meet Recap

All but two girls ran season best times, so it’s fair to say the gave their best on the day. Senior Alli Joy Matison missed qualifying for state, by only four places., which was a matter of about 13 seconds.. Following Alli were sophomores Elizabeth and Audrey Meyering who had season bests. Solid in the middle for our team were juniors Shylin Robirds who was only two seconds off her season best, and Sarah Possett, who also ran a season best. Closing out the team were juniors Bree Bonnema who ran a season best, and Stephanie Pitsch who about 20 seconds faster than the last time she took on this course.
I’m proud of the effort the girls gave today, and I will be again looking at what I have done throughout the season, and will make adjustments that hopefully will allow us to be able to achieve greater accomplishments next year.
We have another meet, in the Barry County Championships, which will be held Monday, on the campus of Thornapple Kellogg High school, where we hope to finish the season on a high note.
