It’s fun to start out on a high note, and to place second behind a very formidable Calvin Christian team isn’t too shabby at all.
The first meet is always fun because it allows us to see where everyone is performing at the moment. I wasn’t entirely surprised by who our top 10 runners were, but the order within our the top ten was interesting. Alli Joy Matison lead the charge for us in commanding fashion. She ran a really smart race and set the tone for our team once she got out front. However, this was far from a one girl show, as the girls ran in fantastic packs. Supporting Matison’s lead role, was Shylin Robirds, who by all early indications is on her way to having a blockbuster season, and right by her side was one of our regularly reliable runners, Sarah Possett. Not far behind them were Elizabeth and Audrey Meyering who had stellar freshman seasons and will likely have solid sophomore seasons respectively as well.
Bringing in the last scoring positions were Bree Bonema who battled through a back injury, and Gracie DeWent who is really coming on, and both of which I think will be force on our team.
Rounding out the top ten were freshman Aubrey Shepherd, senior Lauren Lutz, and junior, Stephanie Pitsch. I think it’s important that I mention all ten because I believe any of them could be in the scoring seven at any given meet.
Although I am not mentioning all of the girls that ran today, I am really proud of each and every one of them. They ran strong, they ran tough, and they went after it.
We will enjoy this for the moment, but we have competition on the horizon in our conference that will be as good as they come in the state.
