Thornapple-Kellogg High School
Wayland High School
It was 2005 when the TK Lady Trojans won their last district title and tonight that 12 year drought came to an end. The trojans defeated Wayland in the district final 5-0 to win the schools 3rd District Title. The road to the finals wasn’t easy for the trojans as they had to beat #5 Gull Lake (4-1) and Plainwell (3-1) to get there. The trojans had played the wildcats two times before so they knew what they were getting into. “Playing a team 3 times is tough. They are a good team and really well coached so we knew we had to come in ready tonight” said coach Strickland. And the trojans did just that. From the beginning of the game the trojans came out firing and took control of the game getting many opportunities including a header off the post just a few minutes into the game.
It was at the 14:27 mark when Sierah Adams made her mark to put the trojans up 1-0. Ellie Adams took a shot which the keeper had a hard time handling. Sierah was there to clean it up and put the trojans up 1-0. That goal also put Sierah in a class of her own setting the record for most goals scored by a freshman with 9. Sierah breaks a record that was set by Molly Wilson in 2006.
The trojans weren’t done there and extended the lead into halftime when Anna Morgan played a corner kick in that deflected off the keepers hands and into the goal to put the trojans up 2-0 heading into halftime.
In the second half it was more of the trojans as junior Kylie Adams continued to show her deadly attack up top by notching her 5th goal of the district tournament at the 6:06 mark to put the trojans up 3-0. The goal was scored off a great ball from defender Taylor Pratt.
The underclassmen for the trojans began taking over the remainder of the game when Sophomore Maddie Raymond scored off an assist from freshman Carmen Beemer to put the trojans up 4-0. The final goal was scored by Carmen Beemer and assisted by freshman Monica Bluhm.
The trojans next stop will be in regionals when they will take on the winner of the Marshall/Coldwater game which will be played tomorrow.
The game will be at Plainwell High School on Tuesday, June 6th at 5pm. Come out and support your trojans.
