Gull Lake High School
Thornapple-Kellogg High School
They say three times a charm. The last two times the Trojans faced Gull Lake they lost to them in the district finals. Both of those years GL went on to win the State Title for Division 2. This time wasn’t a district final but the atmosphere of the game made it feel that way. This was a showdown between the #5 team (Gull Lake) and the #9 team (TK) in division 2.
Right from the beginning TK came out strong and put a lot of pressure on Gull Lake’s defense. GL had a few scary counter attacks that just flew wide of the goal. Finally at the 10:24 mark TK earned it’s first corner kick of the game. TK defender Taylor Pratt played a beautiful ball into the box and Tess Schedule took care of the rest, heading it in to go up 1-0.
Gull Lake would not back down though and continued to put pressure on TK’s defense. Every time TK’s D stood strong and kept GL from scoring. At the end of 40 minutes the trojans were up 1-0.
The second half would see a lot more scoring all around. With both teams getting great opportunities and both Keepers making some great saves it wasn’t until the 12:46 mark when freshman Sierah Adams found her 8th goal of the season assisted by Alyvia Thorne to go up 2-0. That would end up being the game winner. This goal was special for Sierah as with that goal she tied the school record for most goals in a season by a freshman.
The score would remain 2-0 until the 31:37 mark when TK was called for a push in the back which earned GL a PK. Reagan Wisser stepped up and placed it just outside of Maddie Hutchins reach to put them back in the game.
This didn’t stop the trojans and they weren’t about to back down. Just 4 minutes later at the 36:20 mark Monica Bluhm played a great ball over to Kylie Adams. She juked to her left and then brought the ball back to her right and struck a great ball from about 24 yards out to make it 3-1. Kylie wasn’t done though. At the 36:41 mark Haley Dehaan played a ball into GL’s box and Kylie outworked the GL defenders to find the bouncing ball, place her head on it and into the back of the net to go up 4-1.
TK moves to 16-2-1 on the season and travels to Hastings High School Thursday where they will play Plainwell at 5pm. A win will put the trojans in the district finals against either Wayland or Hastings.
