2016 TK Invite Recap
We could not have asked for better weather at the TK Invitational tonight. After facing oppressive conditions in our first two meets, the change in weather was a welcome reprieve.
âWhen the girls arrived at the meet, they looked more lively and less drawn out because they werenât in crazy hot classrooms all day,â Noted coach, Sam Wilkinson, âIt was nice not to have athletes slung over each other, helping each other to get water for survival from braving the heat after the race.â
Finishing first, with a commanding lead was senior, Erika Freyhof, of Hamilton (18:14), she was followed relatively close by Caledonia standout Olivia Schroder (18:53).
Once again Sarah Possett (20:53, 13th place) demonstrated her athletic prowess across the the grass and dirt, leading the Trojans to a third place finish out of eight teams, behind conference foe, East Grand Rapids, and their neighbors to the north, Caledonia, scoring 46 and 56 points respectively, while TK scored 102.
âIâm never worried about whether or not Sarah will perform, and today was another stellar day for her.â
Senior Rachael Gorton (21:12), was second for the team, placing 19th. âRachael was one of the great stories on the day. Itâs only the third meet into the season, but she finally had the kind of race I knew she was capable of running. It was exciting to see her take control of her race and showing her leadership on the team,â commented Wilkinson.
Alli Matison (21:27), Lauren Lutz (21:32), and Audrey Meyering (21:47) rounded out the top five for the Trojans. âWe are starting to form a closer pack closer to the front. Alli and Lauren were battling to get closer to the front groups, and Audrey wasnât far behind,â said Wilkinson.
Another pack Wilkinson is excited about consists of Bree Bonama (22:22), Elizabeth Meyering (22:27), and Kily Hilton (22:40). âBree, Elizabeth, and Kiley are right in the thick of things, and I love seeing them run so close together,â Wilkinson explains, âHaving a pack like that can really do wonders for the teamâs score, and itâs also great seeing Kiley continue to gain strength since her injury.â
âOverall, it was a really good day for us. Iâm really proud of all the girls. They took some risks and went after it, resulting in many personal records for the seasonâ.
The ladies rounding out the Trojan finishers included Allexus Barnes (23:49), Maddie Robirds (24:03), Stephanie Pitsch (24:04), Abbi Tolan (24:34), Gracie DeWent (24:50), Maddie Hannapel (24:58), Tess Scheidel (25:03), Katie Miller (25:43), Gema Diaz-Martinez (25:53), Alex Craven (26:07), Kristina Cuison (26:55), Amber Macomber (28:15), and Clara Classen (32:24).
