Meet Recap

The Muskegon/Oakridge Invitational, on Saturday, September 24th came with twin breakout performances. The Thornapple Kellogg Girls Cross Country team earned second in both the varsity and junior varsity races, but the twins that had the breakout performances where freshman twins, Audrey (20:39) and Elizabeth Meyering (21:22).
“Almost all of the girls had season pr’s (personal records) today, but what was particularly interesting was having the twins, Audrey run first on the team in the varsity race, and then Elizabeth winning the junior varsity race,” Coach Sam Wilkinson said.
With a powerfully packed Cadillac team, with three of their runners in the top four, second place was still remained for the taking.
“We had quite a battle brewing with Mona Shores, but the girls really rolled in the last mile of the race,” noted Coach Sam Wilkinson, “They kept building on the momentum of the race, they were running great together, and they brought it home strong.”
“It was a great day for running, with cool temps and just about no wind,” Coach Wilkinson explained, “It also didn’t hurt that the course was pancake flat. But hey, it was flat for everyone, right?”
The junior varsity race looked similar to the varsity race, as Cadillac and Thornapple Kellogg took first and second respectively once again. However, this time the challengers for second place was Grand Rapids Covenant Christian.
“The race dynamics were different, as we were more spread out in the jv race, but we had runners high up on the pointy-end this time. Elizabeth busted out for first, and sophomore Shylin Robirds (21:58) had an outstanding race, finishing third overall,” Coach Wilkinson reported.
Next weekend the Trojans will head to the Carson City Invitational as they gear up to do battle in third and last of the OK Gold Jamborees, before they face for a final time in the OK Gold Conference Meet two weeks later.
