Meet Recap

Middleville’s Varsity Tennis team qualified for the state tournament with 18 points and finished third in the region behind state ranked Holland Christian and Allegan. The Trojans entered the match knowing that every first round match was a must if they were to have any shot at going to the state finals. Lindemulder and Wilkinson won the biggest match of the first round defeating a higher seeded Hamilton team in a two point match.

After the first round the trojans had 15 of the necessary 18 points to make the state tournament. Second singles Lexie Bays brought home the 16th point by upsetting Allegan in the semi-finals. Fourth singles player Kayla VanGessel won the 17th point by winning her semi-final match over a very good Hamilton player. Grace Brown won a close 1st set against Allegan. We had nine players done at the Allegan site waiting for the results of Graces match which was being played in Otsego. When we got Graces second set score (6-1) we knew it was number 18 and enough to qualify for state. Needless to say players were very excited at the good news. . The state tournament is in Holland June 3-4. The scheduled season ended with a record of 14-1-1, one tournament win, and a trip to the state finals in a couple of weeks. Congratulations on a great team performance at the regional tournament.
